GOOD BYE CAMP GREEN LAKE!

Hi everybody!
Finally, I finished the book.  That’s the reason why it’s my last entry for this blog and probably forever.
I found Louis Sachar's writing style interesting and I liked it. The language was quite easy  to understand. So it was enjoyable to read the book.
Relationship between the characters was one of the most impressive parts of the book by Louis Sachar. For example what happened between Elya Yelnats and Madam Zeroni affected even the fourth generation.

Friendship was an important theme for the book. Before Stanley came to the camp he had no friends. He didn't know anything about friendship. He was "the fat boy" for the others in the school. But after he came to the camp he and Zero became very good friends. And also the friendship between the boys in Group D was very important for the story to move on.
I think, main theme of the book was destiny. Maybe the bad luck had never left family of Stanley before. But all this bad events helped Stanley to survive and find the loot.
For example, if Kate Barlow hadn't robbed Stanley's great-grandfather, would Camp Green Lake even exist? If Stanley hadn't been sent to Camp Green Lake would he even know what friendship means? I think these events prove the existence of destiny in this book.

"When the shoes first fell from the sky, Stanley remembered thinking that destiny had struck him. Now, he thought so again. It was more than a coinsidence. It had to be destiny." (p.149) In this quotation we can see that Stanley is also believed in existence of destiny.

WHAT MAY HAPPEN NEXT?

Hello everyone!
I have 50 pages left. Today I am going to write about my predictions what is going to happen in the following pages.
First of all I want to mention very briefly what happened so far. After the fight between Zigzag and Stanley, Zero hit Mr. Pendanski with the shovel and ran away. Couple of days later Stanley stole the truck to find Zero. But he drove the truck into a hole and ran away without any water.

Now my prediction. I am sure that he will find Zero. But I wonder how Zero could survive in this endless desert without any water. I think Stanley will try to find Big Thumb. Because his great-grandfather has survived in this desert thanks to Big Thumb.  Probably they will find water in Big Thumb. But I’m not quite sure how that can help them to survive.

And Stanley is the only one who knows where the gold tube actually came from.  He is  definitely going to try to learn what is actually in there. I think, he and Zero don’t find any loot or something there. They will only find a  letter or something like that. All his efforts will be wasted. His father  will not invent anything. They all gonna blame again their no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather. And the bad luck never gonna leave them.

But this book isn't different from the cliche and has most likely a good end. I think Stanley and Zero will dig up their last hole and  find a big loot of Kissin’ Kate Barlow. But I’m not sure how they can leave Camp Green Lake with a loot. Because probably the Warden will be looking for this loot, too.

Yeah, that’s my predictions. I am going to see what is going to happen next by reading. Good bye for now!

CHARACTER ANALYSIS OF ZERO

Hi John! Hello everyone!

In this blog post I want to analysis the most intresting character in my opinion, Zero. His real name is Hector Zeroni, but he is always called Zero. He is the youngest person at the Camp. Despite the fact that he is a tiny person, he is the fastest digger in group D. I think that’s why he is so strong for his age. He doesn’t talk much. He had never spoken to the others, until Stanley came to the camp, that’s why he is called Zero by the others. And because of that the other boys and Mr. Pendanski think  he’s stupid. “Because there’s nothing inside his head.” (p.20) said Mr. Pendanski when Zero didn’t answer their questions. But actually he isn’t stupid  very clever. He just doesn’t want to answer their questions.

Especially, I like the friendship between Stanley and Zero. To provide an example, Magnet steals a sack of sunflower seeds but Stanley takes the rap. So Zero digs up Stanley’s hole and that is when Zero has become my favourite character. I found Zero's behaviour very impressive.

To talk about personal characteristics of Zero, he is black and he is illiterate, which means he can’t read and write. But Stanley wants to teach him how to read and write.  During these lessons we find out that Zero is really good at math. Another fact we find out about Zero is that he was lonely in his whole life. Therefore he needs to be loved and cared. I think that is the main reason of the intemacy between Stanely and Zero. Zeros thurst for love and care, made their frendship firmer and strenghten the bonds between them.
Hope to see you in another blog post.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Hi everyone!

I want to write my first impressions about the novel “Holes” , written by Louis Sachar. It’s my first blog post that I have ever written, that’s why I am a little excited.

Before I started reading the book, I was not expecting that reading this book would be so much fun  and the name of the book “Holes” didn’t evoke anything in my mind which made think that the book was going to be one of the  boring school assignment that we read in every semester. But after I read 50 pages, I realized that I prejudged the book. The plot of the beginning was interesting and the language was simple. That’s why I have enjoyed reading the book so far.

The book “Holes” is about a teenager, who was sent to Camp Green Lake because of a crime  he didn’t commit. “He’d just been in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was all because of his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather.” (p.11)

In Camp Green Lake, which has no lake any more, boys have to dig a hole everyday to ‘build a character’. But I think there must be another reason. I hope I find that out soon. There are a few more questions to be answered such as
Who is the Warden?
Can Stanley be a friend with those guys?
What’s wrong with Zero?
I hope I can find out the answers while reading the rest of the book .So that’s all for now.
